Men who smoke 20 cigarettes a day have 60 percent more risk of suffering from erectile dysfunction. Men who smoke fewer cigarettes a day are in low risk for erectile dysfunction but still at much higher risk than non-smokers. Researchers examined data on 4500 men 47 years old. The survey included questions about respondent’s current smoking status, history and quality of sexual relations. 62% of the survey respondents were current smokers and 9% were former smokers. The average blood pressure and cholesterol values for the men were within normal ranges, and the average body mass index (BMI, an indicator of weight and body size) indicated the men were not overweight as a group. According to research men who smoke fewer than 10 cigarettes a day had 15 percent higher risk compared to those who never smoked. Smokers how smoked 10-20 cigarettes per day were at 36 percent more risk for erectile dysfunction and those who smoked more then 20 cigarettes a day were at 60 percent more risk for erectile dysfunction then those who had never smoked.
